Is the Plants vs. Zombies 7-inch vinyl a smart pickup for collectors? We compare its collectible value, sound quality, and novelty against standard vinyl formats.
Quick answer
For fans of the game and Billie Eilish, the Plants vs. Zombies 7-inch vinyl is a charming novelty and a compact display piece. However, if your priority is audio fidelity or a full soundtrack experience, a standard 12-inch LP is a better choice.
Why the 7-inch format matters for collectors
The 7-inch vinyl is a classic single format, typically holding one or two tracks per side. This makes it perfect for a novelty item like the Plants vs. Zombies record, which features a single iconic motif. Its small size and unique cover art make it an excellent display piece, especially for fans who want a tangible connection to the game's meme culture.
Sound quality trade-offs
7-inch records are cut at a smaller diameter, which can result in lower dynamic range and more surface noise compared to a 12-inch LP. The groove spacing is tighter, so the audio is often compressed to fit. For a novelty track like the "Bad Guy"/Plants vs. Zombies mashup, this is acceptable, but audiophiles seeking pristine sound should stick to a full-size pressing.
Plants vs. Zombies 7-inch vs. standard vinyl: trade-offs
- Collectible novelty: The 7-inch is a conversation starter and display piece, perfect for a shelf or frame. The unique cover and meme connection add sentimental value.
- Sound quality: Standard 12-inch vinyl offers wider grooves, better dynamic range, and less surface noise. The 7-inch is adequate for a single track but not for critical listening. If sound quality is your priority, choose a full-size LP.
- Price and value: At a catalog price of $10.23 (compared to $15.99), this 7-inch is an affordable entry point for vinyl collecting. It's a low-risk way to own a piece of game music history. Great for a budget-friendly novelty, but not a comprehensive soundtrack.
Product facts
- Plants Vs. Zombies: Bad Zombies 7": This 7-inch vinyl features a groovy baseline that plays off the main theme from Plants vs. Zombies, tied to Billie Eilish's 'Bad Guy'. It's a direct cultural crossover, making it a unique collectible for fans of both the game and the pop star, but the novelty focus means sound quality is secondary.
