What makes a traditional ‘Mokuhanga’ Woodblock print special? Glad you asked, because it’s a far more complicated process than both popular screenprinting and giclee techniques.

Dating back many centuries, ‘Mokuhanga’ woodblock printing adheres to an ancient methodology that involves meticulously carving detailed artwork into wood, with each color layer being a completely separate piece.

After the runaway popularity of our last two Cuphead ‘Mokuhanga’ prints, iam8bit is at it again. Third time’s a charm, right kids!? Designed by our pals Studio MDHR, this wild & whimsical artwork is lovingly hand-crafted by woodblock master craftsman, Stephen Winiecki. It depicts everyone’s favorite Ms. Chalice as the legendary eight-headed dragon serpent, Orochi, with Cuphead and Mugman ready to take her on in what’s sure to be a legendary battle. Limited to just 150 hand numbered prints, this is a very rare opportunity to add a special Cuphead masterwork to your collection.

Didn't realize how much detail a real woodblock print holds until I saw the ink lines on Ms. Chalice up close. You can actually feel where the paper was pressed against the carved block, which no giclee I've owned has. Framed it same day.

The Mokuhanga process gives this print incredible depth—the carved lines on Ms. Chalice are crisp yet warm, and the limited edition makes it feel like a real collector's piece.

The paper has a lovely texture you don't get from giclee prints, and you can actually see the woodgrain impressions in the ink. Mine arrived with a tiny crease in the bottom corner, but it flattened out fine once framed.
